This study was conducted to evaluate the tiller population density and its structural characteristics in Brachiaria brizantha cv. Piata subjected to deferment periods (65, 85 and 105 days) and initial sward heights for deferment (20, 30 and 40 cm). A completely randomized block design was used in a split-plot scheme with three replications. The population density of vegetative basal and total tillers was influenced by the interaction between periods and initial heights of deferment, with lower values in the period of 85 days associated with the initial height of 40 cm and the period of 105 days associated with initial heights of 30 and 40 cm. The length of the stem and leaf blade of vegetative basal tillers increased with the raise in the deferment...

Morphogenesis of Tanzania guinea grass under nitrogen doses and plant densities R. Bras. Zootec.
Braz,Thiago Gomes dos Santos; Fonseca,Dilermando Miranda da; Freitas,Fabrício Paiva de; Martuscello,Janaina Azevedo; Santos,Manoel Eduardo Rozalino; Santos,Márcia Vitória; Pereira,Vinícius Valim.
The objective of this work was to evaluate effects of nitrogen fertilization and plant density on morphogenesis of Tanzania guinea grass. It was used a random block design with 12 treatments and two replications in a 4 × 3 factorial arrangement, with four doses of nitrogen (N) (without N application, 80, 160 or 320 kg/ha.year) and three plant densities (9, 25 or 49 plants/m²). Harvest was performed at 25 cm from the ground when the canopy intercepted 95% of the incident light. Rates of leaf appearance and pseudostem elongation were positively and linearly influenced by nitrogen, whereas phillochron and leaf life span were influenced linearly and negatively. Leaf elongation responded positively to two factors, whereas leaf senescence rate and number of live...

Structural characteristics of marine sedimentary humic acids by CP/MAS C-13 NMR spectroscopy ArchiMer
Sardessai, S; Wahidullah, S.
Humic acids from sediments of different depositional environments have been studied by solid-state C-13 NMR and the results compared with the traditional wet chemical analysis. Results obtained are well in agreement with the previous literature reports that the carboxyl content measured by NMR correlated better with the total acidity, as well as with the carboxyl content obtained by wet chemical analysis after correction for amino acid carboxyl is made (following hydrolysis of peptide bonds). There is a large discrepancy between the NMR and wet chemical measurements of phenolics. NMR spectra was also indicative of branched paraffinic structures in the humic acids from the Arabian Sea; the humic acids of sediments from estuarine and coastal areas of the Bay...
